Kew Gardens' Community Open Week

We were excited to be commissioned to write and perform a special piece of promenade theatre to be shared at Kew Gardens' Community Open Week; a special initiative which invites community groups and those who might face barriers to come to the Gardens to come along and enjoy special events. This piece of live interpretation took the audience on an adventure with Marianne North - botanic artist and world traveller - telling her story and how she came to paint over 800 plants in situ all around the world. We took the audience on a journey which ended up at the Gallery she designed herself which can still be seen at Kew today!

Here at Bespoken all the work we do is driven by strong sensory storytelling - whether that is a play, a piece of living history, a promenade performance, an interactive workshop or a piece of training. We have  also been working with the volunteers at Kew Gardens to enliven their delivery through the art of telling stories rather than a sharing of facts. We caught up with the Youth Explainers recently who are busy sharing their plant based games all through the summer on Saturdays. We were delighted to see how they are really gaining in confidence and deepening visitors's knowledge and experience of the plant collections at Kew.
Next up we will be working with the Volunteer Explainers in the Temperate House and brand new Carbon Garden.
