Bespoken Back At The Old Operating Theatre

Meet The Herbal Woman Of Old St Thomas Hospital

This summer we are welcoming Bespoken Theatre to the Old Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret as part of our 320th celebration of the creation of the Herb Garret!

Bespoken is a team of theatre and mental health practitioners who are passionate about the arts and the positive impact that creativity can have on mental health and emotional well being. They are committed to telling the unheard voices in history. So, for our season based on herbalism they are the perfect fit.

During late July and August actor Abigail Halley will be bringing to life the Herbal Woman who would sold her herbs to the apothecary of Old St Thomas’ Hospital and then taken to the Herb Garret to dry and cure. Abigail Halley will bring her to life in a piece of living history.

Through a range of multi sensory participatory activities discover more about herbalism in the 18th century. You can even make your very own pomander to take home!

Come and say hello every Thursday during the school holidays between 11am – 1pm and 2pm – 4pm. This event is free with museum admission (charged)
